MTSS and Behavior Support
Escalation Cycle
The escalation cycle describes the stages a student may move through as their behavior escalates, from calm to triggered to agitated to accelerated to peak, and then back down through de-escalation and recovery. Recognizing where a student is in the cycle helps adults choose the most appropriate response for that stage.
