Least restrictive environment (LRE)

Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) is a principle of IDEA that requires students with disabilities to be educated alongside their peers without disabilities as much as possible. IDEA call for special education services be provided in settings that allow maximum participation in general education, with more restrictive placements being considered only when necessary.
