Professional Roles and Identities
School Psychologist
A school psychologist is a licensed professional trained in education and psychology who helps evaluate and respond to students’ learning, behavior, and mental health needs through assessment, data-based decision making, and targeted interventions. School psychologists often complete psychoeducational evaluations, provide recommendations for supports, and contribute to eligibility decisions for special education services. They may also support behavior planning, crisis response, and systems-level prevention efforts.
