I love the books “I Can’t Believe You Said That!” by Julia Cook and “Being Frank” by Donna Earnhardt but have struggled to find meaningful examples for my students to practice using their social filter with. This product is a set of sorting activity cards with 16 different situations/thoughts for students to sort into: “Keep it in your head”, “Say it out loud”, and “Filter it”. There is also a set of blank cards that you can either add your own scenarios to or have your students create their own with.
If you plan to use this resource with the stories “I Can’t Believe You Said That!” by Julia Cook and “Be Frank” by Donna Earnhardt, know that the books are not included in this resource and needs to be purchased separately.

What others are saying...

“This was a very needed lesson and focus area for my students earlier this school year. I adapted some of the activities and language for my older students. I enjoyed the low prep as it was all very organized and planned out. Students enjoyed the activities and were able to comprehend and demonstrate knowledge of the topic”

“I use these cards constantly with students in my class as we practice expected vs. unexpected behaviors at school. It is a great way to really help them practice thinking about what is being said and discuss how people might interpret things differently. I have had some students say “wow I never realized that when I say something like that it makes other people feel bad”. Thank you for this wonderful social skills tool! I highly recommend it to anyone working with students on expected vs. unexpected behaviors at school or how to make/keep friends.”

“Great companion to the book. Perfect for whole class, groups, or individual work”
