Shaping
Shaping involves reinforcing small steps toward a desired behavior rather than waiting for the full behavior to appear all at once. Each step is reinforced until it becomes consistent, and then the expectation is gradually raised until the student reaches the full goal. For example, a student who struggles to stay in their seat might first be reinforced for sitting for one minute, then five, then ten.
