•You’ll update existing resources to improve their relevance, quality, and comprehensiveness.

•You’ll collaborate with the entire TRC team both to gain feedback on your own projects but also to brainstorm and provide feedback to others on theirs.

•A masters degree or higher in counseling, social work, or school psychology

•2+ years of experience as a school counselor, school social worker, school psychologist, school-based therapist, or child therapist

•Initiative, motivation, and a self-starter attitude

Not working as a curriculum creator in any other paid capacity

•Superb writing skills

•An excellent eye for design

•Experience working in PowerPoint

•Thrives with creating a plan and meeting deadlines

•Passionate about creating high-quality, comprehensive, creative resources

Working at The Responsive Counselor

We know that considering a new position is a commitment and a leap of faith. It’s important to us that our new team members love their work as much as we do. With that in mind, here’s a little bit about what it’s like to be part of the team:

We have four core values that we live out both in our internal work and functioning as well as in the content we create – Integrity; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; Growth Orientation; Excellence.

At times, you’ll be working with the whole (small but mighty!) TRC team. That said, there are three people you’ll work most closely with. The first is Sara, the CEO. She’s a Midwesterner turned Southerner, mother, wife, avid reader, and voracious TV watcher. She’s the founder of The Responsive Counselor and with curriculum at the heart of the business, she enjoys an active role in this department. You’ll also work with Liz and Rebecca, who both work part-time on our curriculum team.

This is a remote position, and we are accepting applicants from anywhere in the US (and US territories).

This is also a full-time position. While your hours are flexible, our Curriculum Developer is needed 30-35 hours/week with the majority of your hours being inside 8am-4pm CST Monday-Friday. That means this position is not a side hustle for someone. Your commitment and dedication to the work we do is a key component of our success!

Compensation and Perks

The starting rate for this role is $30/hour. If you join our team, you’ll be eligible for a raise once a year as well as a bonus once a year.

You’ll also get:

•$40/month flexible work subsidy to use on things like internet costs and office supplies

•$100/year stipend for professional development of your choosing (think books, conferences, online courses, magazine subscriptions, etc.) – this is in addition to any mandatory trainings (we’ll cover those costs, of course!)

•Two weeks paid vacation (after 6 months)

•Fourteen paid holiday days

•Flexible scheduling (Need to start early or work late because of an appointment? No problem!)

•Not to be cheesy, but we truly believe this work is really fulfilling and gives us all an increased sense of purpose – a “perk” we don’t want to underestimate

The Position’s Nitty Gritty Details

Here’s some info on exactly what you’ll be doing as TRC’s Curriculum Developer, specifically for the responsibility of new curriculum development:

•Brainstorming ideas for resources broadly (“Hey, what if we created something for XYZ?”) and more specifically (“Here are some ideas of what to include the QRS:”)

•Researching the topics or skill areas in a variety of ways to 1) gain even more knowledge, 2) find any relevant peer-reviewed journal article studies whose findings should be applied to the resource, and 3) gather inspiration

•Outlining resource objectives and components

•Writing the content (counselor/educator directions and scripting, short stories, scenarios, discussion prompts, processing and reflection questions, etc.)

•Putting the content into design (formatting, fonts, borders, clip art, etc.)

•Receiving and implementing feedback at each step of the process

How to Apply

Did we just describe you, your strengths, and your passions in this job posting? If so, we’d love for you to apply!

We will be accepting applications through Tuesday, March 25th, 11:50pm PST. From there, we will select the best fit candidates to proceed through each of the following stages of the hiring process:
